Fourth Time's a Charm

My sweater design odyssey began here with this crocheted skully tee...

After shipping it off to Crochet Today I began a larger version for myself using a cotton I fancy...

Then I thought I'd really like to do a knitted version...

However, the intarsia ends from the color work drove me nuts. So, I opted to tackle a fair isle version.

Bingo!

Only two balls of yarn to deal with for the color work (similar to the crocheted versions) and therefore few ends to weave in. HEAVEN!

My favorite part of this design, whether it be crocheted or knitted, is the way the sleeves are constructed. Short rows! The sleeves are built from the middle out so that the finished pieces are somewhat almond shaped.

Anyway, I'll be taking both versions of this skully shell with me this weekend to San Diego for my art girl collaborative meeting(s). Cotton sweaters travel perfectly!

Oh, and definitely more sweater designs to come...

The short row sleeves are really clever. It's amazing how everything seems to fit extremely well, both knit and crocheted!

Those are really, really cool!

I'll bet you've never crocheted anything with a duckie or puppy on it, have you?

Of course, I love em. I have a question for you-I understand somewhat Intarsia versus Fair Isle-Is it just that with Intarsia, you use bobbins and carry it over and don't fasten off in the back and the Fair Isle, you kinda fast off and weave in the ends?

I have meant to ask you for ages!

Wicked cute. When did mini-lino get so. . . sexy?! Oy. They grow up so fast.

Of course, the blue is my fav. And I'm with deneen - what is the difference between the two when you are only working with 2 colors? What if it was more colors?

Okay, in the case of intarsia v. fair isle, it's not about the amount of colors, rather it's about how many times the color changes from one to the other per row. Meaning at the point of the skull where the eyes happen to reside I am changing from blue to white to blue to white to blue to white to blue again. That's seven color changes, i.e., seven bobbins for each color "section".

Maddening. For me anyway.

Fair Isle means I have two balls of yarn and I carry the yarn at back, changing from color to color when my chart tells me to. Much easier for me to fathom.

And I have tried to find that magazine. It's nowhere to be found around here. Can you say sucky stores?
Please, can you tell me where I can get one? I am just dying to get a hold of one.

I just bought this book mainly cause I saw your pattern. I think it's cool that I get to "talk" with people who publish. I agree though, do you plan on sharing the adult version (in crochet) for this? It's really cute!!

I got my issue of the magazine in the mail yesterday and the sweater is awesome! I might try and make a teeny version for my pseudo-niece.
