Woven Star Shawl

I love small loom weaving. Weaving on a small frame loom is portable, allows me to use up small amounts of leftover yarn and it gives my wrists and fingers a much needed break from crocheting and knitting. As such, here's my latest small loom FO...the Star Shawl!

I love my Hazel Rose Diamond Looms. You've seen my diamond loom shawls before and I've got a diamond shawl schematic that seems to work for me, but this time I decided to vary it up a bit. I am a big fan of this shawl on the "Knitting in Tuscany" book cover by one of my fave designers, Nicki Epstein. So, I figured why not try a star shape with woven components! Using my 3.5" loom, I wove 8 diamonds and arranged them into an 8 pointed star. Beautiful. Now repeat (and repeat again)! I used lots of my own homespun as well as some commercial yarn scraps on the individual diamonds.

I also wove a few squares and triangles to fill in the open spaces between the stars. All in all, I am pretty happy with the results.

Oh, and even more exciting that this FO is the fact that my loving boyfriend and very talented photographer, Steve, has been elected the Head of Photography at Monster Crochet. And thank god for this! His photos are heads and tails above my own. In addition, the lovely lady in the photos above? Yes, that is Heather. Hi, Heather! She will be modeling a lot of my wearables now. Another thanks be to god for this development. Yay! Thank you both for helping me!!

Woven Diamond Stole

This stole (shown above during blocking) finally moved from WIP to FO last weekend. I had been working on it (not consistently mind you) since last year. Actually, I should qualify my last statement. I had been weaving (yes, weaving) piles of diamonds on my 7" Hazel Rose Diamond Loom from my stash remnants since last year. It didn't really occur to me what my piles of diamonds were destined to become until a few months ago. I was plodding along at a glacial pace before the lightening bolt stuck me brain. After illumination, I definitely rocked and rolled those wool diamonds into stole right snappy.

Here's a pic of my little loom along with one of my first diamonds...

I assembled my little woolen and woven bundles of joy by crocheting them all together with no less than a cone of Lamb's Pride worsted and my trusty G hook.

The finished stole measures about 30" wide by 90" long. It's definitely Autumnal in look and feel.

I have several small looms in various shapes that I use quite regularly. Definitely expect more woven delights from moi!

Wonderfully Woven

Lookie what I wove on my trusty tri-loom...

Shawl in "mid-loom".

Yes, that would be a lovely, loopy, quite tartan-like shawl! I even fringed it and I'm not a fringer!

Well, not a fringer in the myriad long strings sense anyway.

I cannot tell you how amazing it is to be weaving again! Although the process of making fabric differs somewhat when weaving on a tri-loom as opposed to that of a traditional floor loom. However, the rhythm of the weave transcends the type of loom used to create the fabric nonetheless...Over, under, over, under, over, under...

I love it!

Which is good because I have to finish up my diamond loom projects and make some time to dress my new Ashford Knitters Loom...
