I plan to be in Chicago the week of November 12th. Never been. Really looking forward to it even though technically I'll be there on business. However, I am getting in the weekend before to account for a little fun time, which does include a Blackhawks v. Red Wings game. Yay!!
Chicagoans? Yarn stores?
My next trip occurs after Turkey Day. San Francisco happens to be my destination at that time. A little business with a few vacation days added in for good measure.
I definitely gotta hit Lacis. More suggestions are definitely welcome. Lisa Solomon, are you around???
We have rescheduled our family vacation for this year twice already. It's just been too crazy to travel. However, I believe we will be in Australia and New Zealand in December. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed...
Just needed thank you all for being so supportive of my crazy creations. You guys are THE BEST! Happy weekend!!

Your travel plans sound wonderful - if you're ever in Switzerland, we would love to show you around! I'm thrilled to hear of your interest in NaNoWriMo - be sure to check out the webpage and sign up! (If you do so, please add me as a writing buddy "Miz K")

I was in Chicago in June and visited Loopy Yarns. Nice store and nice folks. I didn't buy anything because I was traveling with a cranky husband and kiddo but I did get to pet some beautiful yarns. Perhaps you'll have more luck!
Are you staying in/near the Loop or are you in the burbs? I can recommend some suburban locations if the latter.
And SOOOOOOOO jealous that you're going to be at the game... although it's going to be the FIRST EVER home televised game. Now that Dollar Bill Wirtz has passed on, one of the first things his son did was to get home ice on the small screen!
oh, oh, OH! If you have time you can go to the Art Institute of Chicago! Or the Field Museum of Natural History! I spent so much lovely time in those two places when I was in college. I had a complete crush on impressionism in the early 80s, ah those were the days! I admit that isn't very yarny but that's what I think of when I think of Chicago. That and a Thai place on Illinois Ave. called Star of Siam.
I've heard good things about Chicago yarn! Have a great time!
Wish I was here to meet you, but I am going to la Madre Patria to have Turkey or tapas de Chorizo lol!
There are some good LYS in the area. Loopy Yarns in the south Loop is one to check out if you are just in the city. If you can travel a little outside, you have to go to Chix With Stix. http://www.chixwithstixknitting.com/
Here is a link to the Windy City Knitting Guild's list of LYS.

I wish I lived in Chicago, but I dont. An hour or so away. There is so many wonderful places to see there. Have a GREAT time!
I love Imagiknit -- http://imagiknit.com/ -- in San Francisco. A bit pricey, but I love the selection and they're not anti-crochet snobs.
Does anyone know the name for that foldy baskety stashy thing? My mom has one, but it's broken... and I've always wanted one for myself. What's it actually called?
