Currently, we've begun a new era here at ChezLinoleum...High School. Yes, Little Linoleum, has begun the first day of the next four years of her life, as if we've not endured enough tumult as of late. At any rate, my amber-eyed teen spent hours straightening her locks this a.m. in order to prepare for the day's events.
Priorities, people.
I know she's frightened about starting a new school, as evidenced by her current sullen demeanor and omnipresent irritability, but she's also bright, witty, pretty and strong. Nonetheless, my stomach was in knots as I dropped my girl off on the front lawn of the campus. Will she be able to find her classes? Will she make new friends quickly? Will her classes be challenging enough? Will my sweet child succeed???
I believe the answer to all of these questions is a resounding yes. However, as is my way, I still worry.
I texted her as soon as I returned home to finish preparing for my own daily toil.
LadyLino: "R U okay?"
LenaLino: "I hate this skool."
LadyLino: "Okay. Did u find your class?"
LenaLino: "Yeah...theres this really hot guy."
LadyLino: "OK, that's good then! Call me later. Luv u!"
Hopefully I will survive the next four years...

My best friend dropped her son off for his first day of High School yesterday, then cried all the way home. It's hard to know that there are only four years before they fly the coop.
another window into my future....
Thank goodness there was a hot guy!
I know this is in my future too-we all went through it, so....
Good luck! In spite of it all, we will survive their whole childhood ;) Won't we? Still wishing you good things :)
Uh Oh, High School. I didn't talk to my Mom for four years.
35 years later, I'm still not that interested in talking to her. Sigh.
Be thrilled that she's texting.
Ahhh, high school, so many hot guys, so little time :)
Good luck to both of you.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't sullen demeanor and omnipresent irritability the norm for a teenager???? I know I was, as were my friends.
Have a great High School experience, Lena!
I dropped off my intellectual. social wallflower off at college two weeks ago and just got her first e-mail tonight. I had wondered what was keeping her from e-mailing...it was a hot guy!
I've just been through this one myself.
Interestingly, the hot guy bit freaked me out the most.
That always works for me lol!
Good luck, and have a lot of patience and alcohol standing by
my niece just started college. just so wrong. it was only yesterday she was standing on the step stool helping me make brownies. sigh.
Between her smile and her mama's fiesty personality, she's going to do just fine!
Lena's all about the priorities, isn't she?! :)
I had two brothers who were considered to be one of those "hot guy" types in high school, don't trust them. My youngest brother was married, fathered his first child and was divorced by eighteen. Good luck with these years. My oldest child is maturing nicely now that she is a junior in high school. She acually takes time to sit at the table once in a while just to tell me how things are going and to see if I am sill doing ok.
You should be grateful that she tells you all about the hot guys! That's adorable!
Godspeed to her! And to you--you'll both do just fine :)
Good luck to her! I'm sure she'll do fine. Funny how she spent all this time straightening her hair, though. I have bone straight hair, and I spent all of my teenage year wishing it would curl!
she's positively wonderful and well, trust me, we have the exact same behavior here at chez esprit...lol.
glad things are turning for you. hopefully you received my package...
btw - ms. college girl says hello and sends good wishes your way too.
